Father’s Day: Honouring the Silent Strength behind every Family

A father is often the quiet force in our lives. He may not express his emotions often, but every action he takes is filled with care. His love is steady. His presence is strong. He is the one who carries responsibilities without complaint, hides his worries behind a calm face and always makes sure his family has everything they need—even if it means he has to go without. We celebrate International father’s day this year on June 15, 2025.

From the moment a child is born, a father steps into a lifelong role—protector, guide, provider and many more. He may not always be at the forefront, but he is always there, watching over his loved ones. While mothers often receive open admiration for their nurturing, a father’s love is different—quieter, but equally deep. It is a love shown through actions: a late-night ride to the doctor, saving money quietly for school fees, fixing things without being asked, or simply being there when no one else is.

Fathers rarely ask for recognition. They do not expect praise. Many of them grow up believing their role is to remain strong and composed. But behind that strength is someone who feels deeply, who worries silently, who sacrifices daily. His heart is full, but he may not always know how to show it. His way of loving is in making sure the lights stay on, the future is safe and that no harm comes near his family.

On Father’s Day, we pause to recognise all that he does—often unnoticed, often unspoken. It is a day not just to say “Thank You,” but also to truly see him. To acknowledge that the weight he carries is heavy. That his strength has shaped us. That his love, even if not always visible, is what kept us grounded.

To every father—whether you’re one who raised us by example, discipline, kindness, or sacrifice—this day is for you.

At last, I want to add: Having a father in our lives is a true blessing because he becomes the pillar we lean on during life’s uncertainties. He may not always show his emotions openly, but his constant presence brings security, guidance and quiet strength. A father teaches us responsibility through his actions, shows us resilience in the face of challenges and silently supports our dreams, often putting our needs before his own. His sacrifices go unnoticed at times, but the values he instills shape our character and choices. Just knowing he is there—even without saying much—gives comfort that someone strong is always looking out for us.

When I was younger, I never really understood the depth of a father’s love. I saw my father work hard, stay quiet and carry the weight of the family on his shoulders. But I never truly felt what it meant—until I became a father myself.

The day my child was born, something inside me changed. It is hard to explain in words, but I felt a mix of fear, joy and responsibility all at once. I looked at that tiny face and knew that my life would never be the same again. My dreams, my goals, even my daily routine—all started revolving around that little one.

I love so many things about being a father:

That smile my child gives me when I come home tired from work.

Holding those tiny fingers while walking.

Watching cartoons together and becoming a child again.

Hearing the word “Papa” for the first time.

But some feelings are so deep, I can’t even share them. Like the worry, I hide when they are sick. The small tears I wipe silently when they fall. The joy I feel when they achieve something small. These emotions stay locked inside me—because fathers are expected to stay strong.

Being a father taught me patience. It taught me how to love without expecting anything back. It showed me the value of time, sacrifice and silent care.

This Father’s Day, I do not expect a gift or a celebration. I just want a hug from my child—that is enough to make my day.

To the fathers who came home tired but still found the energy to help with homework.

To those who showed up to every match, recital, or school event, even if they stood silently at the back.

To the fathers who taught life lessons through stories, jokes, or even just their silence.

To the single fathers who played both roles without ever asking for credit.

To the new fathers learning their way and to the grandfathers still guiding the next generations.

You are appreciated. You are respected. You are loved.

Let us not wait for just one day in a year to say it— but today, let us say it louder:

Thank you, Dad. You make life safer, better and stronger.

What is a lesson you have learned from your father that stayed with you forever?
